About the Descriptor Search

The descriptor search is a structured search based on a specific set of codes assigned to each review. A descriptor search is most effective when searching the database for materials by stated purposes, topic area focus, and/or special features. For example, a search using the purpose descriptor "deepening teacher content knowledge" would return a list of materials that were coded by the TE-MAT staff and reviewers as having a major focus on deepening teacher content knowledge (See TE-MAT Descriptors for more details.) In contrast, a keyword search would return a list of all materials where that particular word is included anywhere in the review. Although a descriptor search is likely to produce fewer results than a keyword search, the results are more likely to focus on or include the categories chosen in the search. For a broader range of results, you may want to try searching the database using the keyword search feature.
